Christmastime is Here - Vince Guaraldi Trio (Charlie Brown)
This list won’t be in order because I’m not going to put that much effort into it. If it was, this would be closer to number 1. It would probably be number 4. I might actually just post the entire Vince Guaraldi Trio album, really, because it is just so good and perfect and fireplaces, hot cocoa, a million puppies, and maybe even some cute kittens.
I like Charlie Brown specials more now than I ever did as a child. Maybe it’s because I can enjoy the sweet realism of Charlie Brown’s occasionally emotionally withered state more now that I’m older. Maybe it’s because the specials remind me of my childhood.
When I was very young, but not too young, I sat in the backseat of my mother’s station wagon as my father drove and she sat in the passenger seat. They were playing oldies from the 60s and 70s, as they always did, and when the beginning chords of one song started to play over the radio, my father turned to my mother and said, “I hated this song when we were teenagers, never listened to it. Now I like it just because it reminds me of back then.”
I remember thinking how silly that was, with a small part of me knowing that someday I would feel the same way about something. It turns out I was mostly right; general nostalgia is a constant for me.
