I have a long flight coming up. Recommend me a book to bring on the plane? Something that will make me sound cool to English majors.
Right now I’m reading Y. B. Yehoshua’s Five Seasons. I really like it. That said, I’m averaging a solid two to five pages a day because the character is so fucking insufferable.
If you want to sound cool to English majors, I guess I would suggest anything by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, or Jeffrey Eugenides’ Middlesex.
One night, three of us on the trip were drunk and in a hotel room. What do three English majors drunk in a hotel room do? They gather around a computer and read Elizabeth Bishop poems. I mean, then they also weasel a free bottle of wine and handfuls of candy from someone who works at the hotel, but first they analyze poetry. So I guess bring a book of poetry for back up.
